Note to Self: Don’t Stand Under the Chestnut Tree in an October Wind Storm!

IMG_0138

It’s such a gorgeous day and I’ve not had much time to spend in the yard lately, so I easily gave in to the urge to pick up the rake and do a little clean-up of the leaves starting to litter the ground everywhere you look. Of course it wasn’t long before I was completely distracted by the gorgeous chestnuts that have already fallen by the dozens. We’re currently experiencing the first of our notorious October wind storms and every time a big gust blew through another dozen or so chestnuts would crash to the ground, not only sending me ducking for cover but also into a fit of giggles as they bounced on the ground all around me.  As you can  see, I got a little obsessive about collecting them. I have more than enough to make the garland I’m planning and the majority of them are still on the tree! Plenty for the squirrels, I suppose : )

I love the rich color and smooth texture of chestnuts!

Maverick was so happy to see me working in the yard again that he kept zipping from one corner to the other, stopping now and then to check my progress or chase down a bouncing seed pod.
